Die Romantic (2005)
Die Romantic is a song taken from Aiden's 2005 second album (which means they should've known better), Nightmare Anatomy. Alarm bells start ringing as soon as you discover the title of this song, but they're nowhere near as loud as the sound of your ears screaming for mercy as the opening bars of this song kick in. The video accompanying the song introduces us to some junkie dude lying in the street whilst uninspired metalcore riffs penetrate your hearing hole like a swordfish's boner. Now, most people just ignore the homeless when passing them in the street, but not our Wil;

Wil Francis from Aiden is the last thing you need to wake up to when you have a killer hangover. I don't care if this video is completely acted or not, no human being- real or make-believe- should have to suffer this kind of mental torture. Wil seems more than content to annoy, touch and gibber incessently at this unfortunate soul whilst flashes of kewl goff imagery such as bats and churches flicker by. Oooh, spooky biscuits! But wheres the rest of the band?
Aahh, there they are, jamming their inane shit in differing locales around the church. And whats that in the second picture there? I thought skeletons had no flesh, but thats the fattest skeleton I've ever seen. Awful Misfits rip-offs in both image and songwriting style abound in this video, except devoid of any charisma or sense of creativity. If Glenn Danzig were dead he'd be breakdancing in his grave right now, and probably pretty surprised about being able to do it too.
Sadly the video never really changes from here (minus a couple of visual references to self-harm and anorexia- just so gothic), with Wil jabbering nonsense and annoying other people for the next agonising two and a half minutes. Guitar and drums stumble into each awful metalcore cliché like a rhino with inflatable legs, but Wil's jabbering really hammers the final nail into this Aiden-shaped coffin. Check out these lyrics:
